homeworker, I definitely understand about the slow interface -- usually this is because of a network using DirectTrack. But regarding waiting 24 hours to be approved, it's a necessity that networks thoroughly review applications to weed out fraudulent ones.

I do find affiliate networks largely annoying. When you get rejected, after waiting ages... or their interface to choose programmes etc is slow/mind-numbingly confusing.

Then you place code on your site and their client stops paying the bill and you get an email saying to remove it...

I am always trying new ones - because you never know what will work ... but overall I spend 90% of my admin time using affiliate sites for a 10% portion of my income. On the other hand, I dropped Google Adsense code into my site 2 years ago and it just keeps running and paying out. Much easier!

I just joined another one earlier, they made out it was easy. Had to submit the form 3 times, open my email, click on the link - and now they want to look at my site and it'll take up to 48 hours... by the time they do I will have forgotten all about them and will be doing something else!

I wish some of these networks took incentive trafic. As I am an incent site which means I pay people to take the surveys and try the products etc. I am now opening another site that is NONINCENT but still offers the same stuff and then some and would be HAPPY to use your links as MaxBounty and Hydra I know for sure are EXCELLENT SITES but do not take incent trafic while they do accept other trafic! If you have any more links and I am not a member please send them my way!! THANKS and you are VERY resourcefull! If you have any tips on the best ways to market an incent site I am ALL EARS :) LOL

Thanks so much for the detailed response. As an affiliate manager of a mid sized network, I am always curious on how affiliates find their networks of choice. Sometimes I find it hard to when prospecting to keep up with the advertising dollars of the bigger players in the industry. I think you are correct in that fact that a referral is the best way to find good networks. And for me, the best affiliates (even though that way seems slow going at times :)).

Your list of questions would definitely help me see what it takes to stand apart in this space.

Wendy -

Many try to prospect me to try out there network. Some i do some i don't. Most of the ones i got into at first were referred to my thru industry friends. as they had already been around the block with some of the networks and could point me in the right direction.

I haven't ever come across a BAD network that i signed up for as in didn't pay me or anything like that. It is just getting tougher these days with 100's of networks poping up. So now on publisher end we have to find who has the offers direct and isn't just refeeding the offer from other networks. Most of the bigger players and networks i recommend have many direct relationships which in turn means bigger payouts.

I know have a list of questions I ask of a network inquiring me to try or one i am curious about maybe i will make a post about them :).

I've been reading your blog for quite some time and wanted to know what makes you decide to work with a certain networks. Do they prospect you or do you get a referral from a fellow affiliate marketer?
