Very true. Separating the hobbyists from the full timers is a good thing... It's not as if people have stopped shopping online.

The Sky Is Falling, Again...

I always want to rant about how annoying it is when people complain about how it isn't like the good 'ol days. On any given forum someone will tell you how in 1999 you could throw up a banner to anything and make 6 grand before dinner... It's true...

Though G says that your site natural rankings play no pole for PPC - i think it is not true. my ppc promoted sites started back in 2005 are doing fine. and a few projects started in 2008 (and they meet all G announced quality guides - 10's pages of uniques content regularly updated, incoming links, etc) get slapped within a few days.

In some ways it's much nicer that its harder and the easy affiliate marketing days are over. It Means that people will place some thought and work on the game as a business not just a hobbies. From the merchants perspective its probably work in their favour as well, in regards to ensuring their brands are being marketed closer to the their own game plans.
Cheers James

Exactly, the holes are just less apparent now. But I think it's good honestly in one way or another, helps the market evolve.
