Q&A Natural Search Engine Rank, Adwords and Landing Pages

Posted on July 5, 2007 in Affiliate Tips, Google Adwords, PPC

Today I decided to do a little Q&A due to an email i received from Edwin.

1)I rank number 1 on Natural Search Engine Rank for my niche, but should i still use AdWords?

If you have natural search engine rank for any terms that get searches daily props to you. Especially in a high volume market. Should you use adwords?  YES!!!!  On all my natural ranking sites that i make money off of and i am not capturing the whole audience I use adwords.

a. You can capture more of your audience, as i doubt you are getting 100% of the traffic that is searching.

b.  Make a custom ad towards the search engine visitors, and you can change it often to see what works.

c. Due to you ranking #1 most likely (not guaranteed) you will get good Quality Score which will mean cheap bids.

2)Do colors really make a difference in sales?

I am assuming you meant on landing and sales pages. Yes they can make a difference. Anything from color to placement to the signup or sale process can make a drastic difference in the amount of sales or leads. The best way is to test different colors or layouts with your main sales or landing page and keep which one converts the best. In the short term you may lose a little but in the long term you will gain more profits.

VIjay keep in mind that some companies like apple coke or whoever can enforce trademark etc.. if you are little guy you will have tougher time trying to get google to ok that. so in turn you may have competitors etc.. so its worth you to bid on adwords.

Second that for #1 - so long as I’m making a positive ROI on a marketing endeavor(including a dollar/hour value to account for time), I’ll do it and move on to the next.

First, you’ve got an extra http:// in your “Contact Form” link.

Second, does Adcenter or Yahoo allow you to send traffic directly to affiliates (Adwords sure as hell doesn’t)? If not, I’d like to know the best way for testing new offers.

    thehosthunter-

All PPC engines you can send directly to the offer you just may have to use redirects to make it work.

Can you explain how to make redirects work with adwords (so they don’t jack up the bids)?

  8. CPA Affiliates on July 7th, 2007 2:15 pm

    markus-

It more so has to do with the offer landing page than the redirect itself. Unfortunately many landing pages are horrible for getting good Quality score rankings while others are awesome. You need to evaluate the offer page as if it was your landing page to page the adwords Quality score.

Thanks for the advice. How does Amazon do when it comes to that? Are there any specific aff programs that you have seen perform well on this front?

Stuff I’ve tested has always gotten outpriced.

Thanks David for all the wisdom. I launched my first landing page today and went forward with my test run. So far things look promising. Thanks for showing me the way!

This is definitely good advice. Although natural search engine rank is considered the best place to be, Adwords is just as important if you are truly looking to promote your site on the search engines. When developing an Adwords campaign, an effective technique that is often overlooked is creating two distinct ads for your sponsored listings (i.e. one ad may use keyword-insertion while the other does not). By comparing the click-thru rates of each ad, one can more effectively achieve the lowest overall cost per conversion. Landing page development is equally important.
